GOVERNMENT’S NEW HEAD-ON ATTACK ON MARRIAGE From Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) .
n the past fortnight, the government has widened i ts attack on marriage. Government minister Baroness Stowell speaking in Parliament, made the astonishing claim that in law: ‘marriage does not require the fidelity of couples. It is open to each couple to decide for themselves on the importance of fidelity within their own relationship’. This is not a correct statement of the law. The promises of fidelity are at the heart of marriage as a sacrament and as the foundation of families and society.
The government statement suggests wider moves to undermine lasting faithful marriages. The House of Lords will vote on amendments to the bill on 8th and 10th July. The final debate on the bill will be around 16th July. Please write to members of the House of Lords again now, asking them to uphold real marriage.
