School Governor Vacancies

Our headteacher, Mrs Gemma Irvine writes: At St Mary’s, our aspiration is to be the best school in the country and to provide an education to your children which is second-to-none. Our  pursuit of excellence requires real drive, determination, and commitment from all stakeholders. Governors, in particular, play a crucial role in helping shape and influence the direction the school takes. You may have been a governor in the past or conversely be put off by your lack of experience or perception of how many hours this role might involve. Well – fear not! At St Mary’s (and all other schools in the Bosco Catholic Education Trust) we limit the length of any meeting to 1.5 hours and governors are only expected to attend one meeting each half term. We give you all the support and guidance you need and work well as a team. Being a governor is a really exciting and worthwhile role, giving you the opportunity to invest in your child’s school and influence its future direction. Whilst we’d be interested to hear from anyone prepared to become a governor (as we have a parent governor vacancy), we are particularly looking for anyone who is a practising Catholic (for Foundation Governor roles) and anyone with a background in finance. Do please contact me on or 01903 234115 to make the next step.

Really hope to hear from you soon!

Worthing Winter Night Shelter

The end has come for the WWNS for this year! We have decided to carry on providing hot food and drink on a Monday for one hour, 6.30pm – 7.30pm, in the Parish Centre. The Night Shelter items need to be sorted and stored until the next Night Shelter; if you could help with sorting clothes and bedding, and dismantling camp beds, why not come along after
Mass on Tuesday 26th March and Tuesday 2nd April?

Prayer Friends for First Holy Communion Children

Each of the FHC Children needs a prayer friend – a parishioner who will pray for a specific child as they prepare for the First Holy Communion in June. If you can help with this, please sign your name and contact number on the name badge of the child you have chosen. The badges are displayed on the children’s photograph board in the Lady Chapel.

There will be a short ‘get together’ for children, families and prayer friends to meet each other after 10.30am Mass on 28th April, in the Parish Centre.

Readers & Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

A happy and thriving parish like ours needs plenty of readers and Eucharistic Ministers to keep the wheels of the Masses well-oiled. If you would like to be considered for one of these ministries, and there’s nothing preventing you, please email Fr Terry (or give him a hand-written note) and we will be in touch. Readers will be asked, as you will understand, to have a dry-run to ensure that they are comfortable with what’s involved. Don’t be shy! Many thanks.

Parish Choir Practice

On Saturday 2nd February, there will be a choir practice at church starting at 3.00pm. This will be to practice the music for 10th and 24th February. This should take no longer than an hour. If there is a general consensus to start at 2.00 pm, or some other time, please let Al Stepney know.

If it is cold we will practice in the Parish Centre, as its easier to heat.

Music will be notified by 26th January, with YouTube links where possible.
