It’s a sad fact that recent surveys show that 36% of 5-7 year olds, don’t know whose birthday we celebrate at Christmas and 7 2% don’t know Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Less than 12% of adults know the full nativity story and 51% say that the birth of Jesus is irrelevant to their Christmas.
The company that produced the first Real Easter Egg, so popular at St Marys at Easter Time, have now produced a Real Advent Calendar, a new and great way to share the real meaning of Christmas. It is very colourful and eye catching. There’s a line of the Christmas story and a chocolate star behind each window and behind the final windo w is a 24-page Christmas storybook.
The company will also make a donation of 10 pence to The Children’s Society from every sale of The Real Advent Calendar and aims give at least £26,000 to them this year. The cost of each one is £3.99 Some independent stores such as Christian book shops are stocking it but Tesco is the only supermarket stocking The Real Advent Calendar this year. If enough are sold then more supermarkets and outlets will stock it next year. It may also be available from Traidcraft but will need to be ordered soon!! A small number may be available on our Traidcraft stall in Nov
